Welcome to the Revolution!

Welcome to Declaration Entertainment and the front lines in the fight to reclaim our national identity.

At Declaration Entertainment, our philosophy is simple: The American people should have more of a voice in the kinds of movies Hollywood makes.

In the golden era of Hollywood, that was the case.  The studios in that age not only financed and created the movies, but they owned the theaters where those movies would play.  The result was a direct line of financial influence between the movie-goer, and the movie maker.

An unfortunate Supreme Court ruling cost the studios ownership of the theaters.  The result was that over time, the relationship between box-office gross and filmmaker grew less and less direct.  Studios made smaller and smaller percentages of the money spent on tickets, and so they had to find other places to make money.  Once that happened, the power of the regular audience member to reward or punish movies they liked and approved or, or disliked and found harmful to the culture at large, was severely weakened.

As the studios found new ways to make money that were less directly dependent on American movie-goers, they became more and more deaf to the opinions of those movie-goers.  A boycott of a particular movie by American audiences might still cost them some money, but the percentage of the overall revenue streams from foreign markets, home videos, and other licensing outlets began to far outweigh the box office.

Hollywood was now free to make "brave" movies that "challenged" audiences' beliefs rather than affirming them.  The American public was not pleased, and attendance declined by well over 50%.  This hurt the new independent theater owners, but the studios were largely immune.  Since the theaters don't make the movies, and the movie makers don't get the theatrical money, pop-corn prices went way up, and movie attendance kept going way down.

Todays movies rarely represent the values of our great nation.  Gone are the movies of American heroism that used to be standard fair. Today's Hollywood is built to please foreign audiences.  That's why the bad guy in almost every movie you see nowadays is an American.  What do the American people think about this?  Well, according to a recent Pew poll, only 33% of them have a favorable view of movies, and yet America's children still consume more than 1500 hours of film and television a year!  That's more time than they spend in school and church combined!  Is it any wonder the traditional values that made this country strong are in decline as well?  People's attitudes are learned through what they consume, and what they consume is not meant to make American's happy.

Declaration Entertainment exists to restore the power of the American people to influence the kinds of movies that get made by rebuilding the financial relationship between audiences and filmmakers.  Movies are terribly expensive, far out of the range of most people to finance, but working together, even small amounts of money - say, $10 a month - can become vast sums, capable of financing a new golden era of American cinema and ensuring that when the next generation of Americans ingest their thousands of hours of entertainment, it is consistant with the values that built this great nation in the first place.  Freedom and Sacrifice, Hard-work and Self-reliance, Faith and Family.

Thank you for joining the revolution.  Thank you for Declaring your Independence from Hollywood.  Together, we can still be the nation of our fathers, and together, we can make the movies that broadcast that nation's values to the world.

#127 -- This is a great idea, a sort of X-Prize for patriotic movies. I'd also like to see Declaration Entertainment branch out into TV. We need a good conservative, patriotic TV series.

Also, please implement a way to give gift memberships and donate without buying a membership. As someone pointed out, we all pay a lot of money for crap ($100/month for TV for example) so I'd be more than happy to direct some of that to Declaration if it gets us a worthwhile product.

I second the idea about Declaration Entertainment going into TV. People watch TV more than they go to movies and the amount of anti-American sentiment is astounding.

#36. Hmm. I am not a number ... I am a free man!

In any case, I trust the principals of the venture to know whether TV or movies is the right forum ... but I find the TV idea interesting. I currently watch re-runs of Adam-12 and Emergency! on Hulu in preference to much that is out there. There also seem to be a lot more channels than there is content to fill them, which may not be the case for movies.

I realize movies may offer higher bang for the buck; it's not clear that a television show or made-for-TV movie is that much less expensive to produce. But given the kinds of monster-of-the-week dreck which SyFy is apparently willing to pay to put on their bandwidth, it would seem opportunities abound.

The DE concept was launched

The DE concept was launched on Sunday, 4th of July (a day when probably very few were paying attention) and within two days there are already enough people signed up to generate a revenue stream over $2500 a month (I'm #253). That's pretty good for a two-day result from what is virtually a stealth effort -- no great publicity effort underway at all.

I think this is a wonderful concept and I suspect the total available market is in the millions of people; if we can tap even 10 percent of that then the biggest problem will be project selection, not financing. But we need to get the word out, put the proposal in front of the tens of millions of conservatives and patriotic Americans of every stripe. How do we do that, and how can all of us help?

Projects like "Arroyo" for $3M and "Aurora" for $12M are very much worth pursuing, but let me offer two other ways to move forward:

- Short films: They cost far less to make, can help showcase and prove the viability of the concept (remember what the little lamp "Luxo Jr." did to get Pixar on the map? And Pixar's later "Geri's Game," which won an Oscar?). And a good short can certainly tell a powerful story. So instead of swinging for the fence with multi-million-dollar films first out, how about soliciting and helping fund some shorts from independent film makers who can tell a good American story in a short film?

- How about considering collaboration with Christian film houses such as Sherwood Pictures? These don't have to be overtly religious films (like those from Christian Films), but a secular film with a Christian angle ("Ben Hur" being a famous example, "The Book of Eli" being a great recent example) may provide room for collaboration and certainly can be compatible with traditional American themes.

Thoughts?

This is a good idea! You should start a topic thread in the Townhall forum under the "What I'd Like to See" - there are lots of great ideas for short segments that are hard to flush out into full movies.

I think your short films

I think your short films concept is a great way to start. Also, enlisting help from Christian movie companies to help us make our movies is another great idea. How do we vote on these ideas? How do we get these ideas into the policy and production stage?

It looks like I'm nearly a late comer here with Order #316. This is so exciting. We gave up on theaters over 20 years ago at our household. At this point our friends have all joined us in that. Ten dollars a month toward the hope of it being safe to take our children still at home (or ourselves) to a movie one day is worth it! :)

As ol' #301 I love this effort. I concur with Milano that short feature are probably the best "bang for the buck". Please do not ignore what is possibly the most important audiance - the little cartoon watchers. We could get a LOT of American culture comfirmation with cartoons that displace the Japanese "cycle and recycle" action figure sales pitches, in the form of cartoons. How about "Captian America" - a ready made comic, with a following? Remember Steve Reves standing proud in front of the American flag in his Superman suit (black and white TV) - "standing for truth, justice and the American way"? As any Communist will tell you, cultural training starts EARLY!

They are actually filming a Captain America movie right now. I don't know how or what its message will be (frankly, I get nervous anytime they tinker with by boyhood memories). So far, from what I've seen out of it... I'm anxiously anticipating its release.

Hubby and I decided years ago

Hubby and I decided years ago that cable TV wasn't for us so we don't shell out money every month on sophomoric drivel, most of which has no redeeming value. As one of us retired, we also dropped all our magazine and newspaper subscriptions as it was saturated with liberal propaganda. The internet media has become THE source for unbiased information. We are excited about the opportunity to improve things for our grand-kids and thrilled to watch the growth...from #1407.

Just a comment on the equipment that the hero carries in the Arroyo.
Using and carring modern equipment in a rural area is common, at least where I live so no problem there and the kalishkov is the most widely produced and famously reliable firearms in history. An experienced operator would already be trained on them. Self reliance is more common than many think.
